Welcome To Our School Website
St Dominic Savio School is a Roman Catholic Voluntary Aided primary school for children aged between 5 and 11 years. The school serves the parishes of St John Bosco, Our Lady of Peace and Blessed Dominic Barberi, St Thomas More and the areas of Woodley, Winnersh, Charvil, Twyford, Wargrave and East Reading.
Our school exists primarily because of the commitment of the parents, staff and governors to the Catholic Church. We believe that gospel values should be evident in all we say and do in the school. Religious Education is not just an allotted segment in the timetable. We have adopted a motto which reflects this belief - Serve The Lord With Joy. We aim to provide a happy and caring Catholic/Christian environment where the spiritual and moral development of the children is as important as their intellectual, physical and aesthetic development. In fact, it is the school's published mission statement that:
Our School looks to Christ for the basis of its existence
We will foster our children's journeys in faith and self respect
We will do our utmost to ensure that they acquire skills, knowledge, attitudes and values that are necessary for life
We will encourage a dynamic interaction between home, parish and school.
The belief in the Catholic faith naturally begins in the home and the school aims to nurture that faith:
Ensuring that the children learn to communicate effectively, as this has a significant influence on their understanding of relationships.
Ensuring the curriculum provides a Catholic, Christian setting in which children can grow in knowledge, skills, attitudes and values.
Creating interaction between the home, the school and the parish which help to prepare the children for entry into the wider community.
Teaching the importance of respect and concern for their fellow pupils, parents, teachers and other members of society.
We value the trust placed in us by the parents of the children in our care and we strive to ensure that all our children prosper and thrive. The environment we create is one where the children feel confident, secure, valued and able to express their views and opinions whilst understanding the importance of listening to others.
The school has adopted the "Here I Am" religious programme and is pleased with the results that have been achieved in its use.
All children admitted to the school take part in collective worship daily. There are also class masses during each term and regular school masses. Infant children have liturgy services with our local priests.
The school occupies a spacious and pleasant site at the rear of the Parish Church of St John Bosco in Western Avenue, Woodley. It has its own playing fields, playgrounds and nature area with pond, situated adjacent to Woodford Park.
St Dominic Savio has been a leading Catholic school since its establishment in 1966.

This is the linkway between the Infant and Junior building. The school has always sought to improve its ability to serve the local community. As a result of this philosophy, the Infant and Junior schools were amalgamated in September 1991.
